〈인간의 대화 5>은 〈인간의 대화 1>, 그리고 <녹색등대>, <달콤한 꿈은 무엇으로 만들어지는가?>에서 파생된 연작으로, 36개의 질문에 대하여 인간 참여자(인터프리터)가 즉흥적으로 대답하는 장면과, 인공지능이 즉흥적으로 대답을 생성해낸 내용이 혼합되어 있다.  두 개의 세트로 구성된 질문지는 1997년 미국의 심리학자 아서 아론이 제안한 ‘사랑에 빠지기 위한 36개의 질문들’ 내용 중 일부를 차용하였으며, 발화자의 정체성과 연계하여 감각이나 기억, 감정과 믿음, 그리고 세계관에 대해 구체적인 상상력을 요하는 구성으로 이루어져 있다.

영상에 등장하는 인물들은, 이름, 성별, 신체적 특징과 같은 간단한 것들에서부터 복잡한 일화적 기억에 이르기까지 하나의 가설적인 정체성을 상상력을 동원하여 만들어내야만 하는 즉흥적인 상황에 놓인다. (이러한 설정은 작가의 전작들이 작동하는 방식 - 임기응변을 통해 정체성이 생성되도록 만들어지는 구조 (녹색등대, 클럽 리얼리티의 예 )를 차용한다.) 이 과정에서 멜린다와 맥신, 솔로몬 마르코니와, 맥스, 바람과 함께 움직이는 자, 그리고 르네라는 여섯 명의 정체성이 화면에 나타나는 두 인물의 신체에 빙의하여 등장한다. 여섯 인물의 독백이 겹쳐지는 동안, 각각의 화면에는 5hz 차이의 모노주파수가 함께 재생되는데, 두 주파수가 합쳐지면서, 꿈꾸는 상태의 뇌에서 형성된다고 알려진 세타파가 만들어진다.

<Human Conversation 5> is a series derived from <Human Conversation 1>, <Green Lighthouse>, and <What Are Sweet Dreams Made Of?>. It combines scenes where human participants (interpreters) spontaneously answer 36 questions with responses generated by artificial intelligence. The questionnaire, consisting of two sets, borrows partially from <36 Questions That Lead to Love> proposed by American psychologist Arthur Aron in 1997. The questions are structured to require specific imagination regarding sensory experiences, memories, emotions, beliefs, and worldviews in connection with the speaker's identity.

 

The individuals appearing in the video are placed in improvisational situations where they must use their imagination to create a hypothetical identity, ranging from simple attributes like names, gender, and physical characteristics to complex episodic memories. (This setup adopts the operational mechanism of the artist's previous works - a structure that generates identity through improvisation, as seen in <Green Lighthouse> and <Club Reality>). Through this process, six identities - Melinda, Maxine, Solomon Marconi, Max, The One Who Moves with the Wind, and René - possess the bodies of two figures appearing on screen. As the monologues of these six characters overlap, each screen plays mono frequencies with a 5Hz difference; combined, these frequencies create theta waves, known to form in the brain during dream states.
